Padel: rules and curiosities
Padel seems to be the sport of the moment, and many probably have the feeling that it was born in very recent years. In reality, its origins date back to the 1970s , when the Mexican Enrique Corcuera, intent on building a tennis court in his own home, found the presence of walls close to the court as an obstacle. For this, he conceived the idea of considering those walls an integral part of the game , modifying the rules of tennis "to his advantage" in order to use them. Corcuera then regulated the new game and called it Padel.
Where to play, then? Padel is practiced in pairs in a rectangular court enclosed by walls on all four sides . The measurements of the padel court are 10mx20m, and "the court must be separated by a net in the center with a minimum height of 88cm which rises up to 92cm at the ends".
The rules of padel
Padel is played in four , two per team. The game is similar to tennis, the match consists of three sets and in the case of a 6-6 score a seven-point tiebreak is played.
The game starts with a serve, which can be retaken in case of a miss. The ball is hit behind the service line and must rebound to touch the ground , once the ball has been served, it must rebound into the other team's court in the diagonal quadrant of the batsman. Just like in tennis, the ball can only be hit once by each player. If the ball hits the player of the other team it is a foul, because the ball can only hit the racket, the court and the walls.
The point is awarded when the ball is "out" and hits the other team's field walls or the wire mesh; if, on the other hand, the ball is in the field, the player can play it again by exploiting the rebound off his own walls. A spectacular hit can be seen when a player dunks and the ball after bouncing into the opponent's field comes out of the side walls (X3) or the back wall (X4); to return the shot, players can follow the ball and exit the field through the side exits and put it back into play.
The point is also lost when the ball bounces twice in his own court , or when a player commits an invasion, by touching the net or by hitting the ball before it has passed over the tape and has not correctly reached the other team's court. It is not considered an invasion when the ball first bounces off one's own back wall and the counterattack is made with the racket over the net, again without touching the tape. Other penalties include instances where the player strikes or touches the ball more than once or where both players strike the ball at the same time – difficult but likely to happen.
Useful tips for those starting to play Padel
As in all sports, what is needed to start is a good knowledge of the regulation and then, above all, a lot of practice and perseverance in training. To play well, have fun and be able to focus only on your technique, then, you need something else.
In Padel the equipment is essential , both to respect the regulation and to be able to give your best and grow in this game. Suitable equipment and clothing are required to play in total comfort and safety.
Starting, of course, with the racket . Choosing the right model is essential, because it must respect one's physicality, characteristics and obviously also one's technical level. On padelmaniac.shop the right level is specified for the racket model you are choosing.
